2nd European Truck Charging Symposium 2025: Advancing zero-emission freight

The 2nd European Truck Charging Symposium, held on 30 September – 1 October 2025 at Fraunhofer ENIQ, Berlin, brought together over 200 experts from research, industry, policy, and NGOs to discuss the electrification of Europe’s heavy-duty freight sector. Co-organised by the HoLa and MACBETH projects, the event focused on challenges and opportunities for deploying Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS) and building a robust zero-emission truck infrastructure.

Symposium Highlights

The two-day event combined high-level presentations, expert panels, and interactive sessions to cover three main areas:

  • Charging technologies and systems: Progress in MCS deployment, real-world experiences, and strategies to scale charging for public and depot networks.

  • National pilots and demonstration projects: Updates from Sweden, Norway, Poland, and the Netherlands on electrification pilots, infrastructure planning, and lessons learned.

  • Research, market barriers, and industry perspectives: Insights into charging optimization, depot feasibility, life-cycle analysis, and business models for large-scale deployment.

During the opening remarks, Patrick Schnieder, German Federal Minister of Transport, highlighted the importance of policy frameworks in supporting sustainable transport and creating the conditions for widespread adoption of electric freight solutions.

The symposium also included a dedicated AEVETO Cluster session to explore real-world pilot learnings and define practical charging scenarios, fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration between policymakers, researchers, and industry to transform technical innovations into scalable solutions. Insights from the symposium will help shape the future of truck charging infrastructure in Europe, supporting the transition to zero-emission freight transport.
